We use only sustainably sourced timber — grown in Kenyan plantations or reclaimed from retired dhow boats along the coast.
Every species is chosen for its character, durability, and story. We never cut indigenous forest. Every plank has a provenance we are proud of.
PLANTATION GROWN
Sustainably Grown in Kenya
All introduced species, grown in commercial plantations across Kenya. We never cut indigenous forest.
GREVILLEA ROBUSTA
Grevillea / Silk Oak
Originally Australian, now one of Kenya’s most widely planted trees. Pale golden to light brown with a distinctive, sometimes wavy grain. Lightweight yet strong, it works beautifully and takes a smooth, even finish.
EUCALYPTUS CAMALDULENSIS
River Red Gum
An Australian eucalyptus thriving in Kenyan plantations. Reddish-brown heartwood with a tight, interlocked grain. Hard and durable, it produces rich, warm-toned furniture with excellent stability.
EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS
Tasmanian Blue Gum
Introduced from Australia and grown commercially in the Kenyan highlands. Pale straw to light pink with a fine, even texture. Dries to a hard, smooth surface — light in weight yet remarkably strong.
TECTONA GRANDIS
Asian Teak
Teak native to Southeast Asia, now plantation-grown in Kenya. Honey-golden timber with a straight grain and natural oil content. Exceptionally durable and weather-resistant, ageing gracefully to a soft silver-grey.
RECLAIMED
Upcycled Dhow Boat Timber
Salvaged from retired dhow boats along the Kenyan coast — each plank carrying decades of history on the Indian Ocean.
MILICIA EXCELSA
Mvule
Also known as African Iroko, one of East Africa’s finest hardwoods. Rich golden-brown with a coarse, interlocked grain. Incredibly durable and naturally resistant to decay — the reclaimed dhow timber carries a deep, weathered patina.
KHAYA ANTHOTHECA
African Mahogany
East African mahogany with rich reddish-brown heartwood and a fine, interlocked grain. Naturally lustrous, it deepens to a warm glow over time. Dense, stable, and ideal for statement pieces.
RHIZOPHORA SPP
Mangrove
Reclaimed from old dhow boats built along Kenya’s tidal coast. Extremely dense and hard with a fine, tight grain. Dark and heavy, with a unique character shaped by years of salt, sun, and sea.
