About Us

Ololo Handmade was born from a passion for thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and creating furniture that tells a story.

Founder Joanna Chapman studied Furniture & Interior Design in Australia and spent many years working alongside architects and designers in Brisbane and the Northern Rivers of NSW.

The Chapman family eventually moved to Kenya and purchased and converted an old family home to become a safari lodge. Ololo Safari Lodge & Farm is nestled on the edge of Nairobi National Park and the Mbagathi River, with wonderful views over the park and to the Ngong Hills in the west.

Over the years, Joanna has designed, and our talented fundi carpenters have handcrafted, many of the distinctive furniture pieces found throughout the lodge. Each piece reflecting a balance of uniqueness, functionality, and craftsmanship.

At the heart of Ololo Handmade is our team of fundi carpenters — Peter, Charles, Elijah, Emmanuel and others — whose combined skills, creativity, and dedication bring each design to life. Together, they transform sustainably sourced timber and natural materials into unique furniture pieces, crafted to last for generations.

Today, Ololo Handmade creates bespoke furniture for homes, lodges, hospitality spaces, and commercial projects. We look forward to creating beautiful, enduring furniture for your home and space!

WHAT GUIDES US

Our Values

value 01

Sustainably Sourced

Every plank comes from Kenyan commercial plantations or reclaimed dhow boat timber. We know where our wood begins its journey.

value 02

Handcrafted Always

No CNC machines, no assembly lines. Every joint, every curve, every surface is shaped by the hands of our fundi carpenters.

value 03

Built to Last

We design for decades, not seasons. Our furniture is meant to be passed down, not replaced — crafted to last for generations.

value 04

Made by Our Fundis

Our small team of talented fundis — Peter, Charles, Elijah, Emmanuel and others — pour skill and heart into every piece.
