OUR MATERIALS
Timber with a story
Every piece begins with carefully selected timber, sourced close to home and chosen for its character, durability, and provenance.
Blue Gum
Eucalyptus grandis
SUSTAINABLY GROWN IN THE HIGHLANDS OF KENYA
Pale straw to light pink in tone, with a tight, even grain. Dries to a smooth, hard surface that takes a natural oil finish beautifully. Light yet remarkably strong.
Mahogany
Khaya anthotheca
RESPONSIBLY SOURCED EAST AFRICAN MAHOGANY
Rich reddish-brown heartwood with a fine, interlocked grain. Naturally lustrous, it deepens to a warm glow over time. Dense and stable, ideal for statement pieces.
Meru Oak
Vitex keniensis
INDIGENOUS TO THE MOUNT KENYA REGION
Golden-hued hardwood with a moderately coarse, straight grain. Hard-wearing and dimensionally stable, it finishes to a warm satin sheen.
Teak
Tectona grandis
PLANTATION-GROWN IN THE KENYAN COAST
Honey-golden timber with a characteristic straight grain and natural oil content. Exceptionally durable and weather-resistant, it ages gracefully to a soft silver-grey.
Reclaimed Wood
Mixed hardwoods
SALVAGED FROM OLD KENYAN STRUCTURES AND FENCING
Every board carries its own history — visible knots, nail marks, and patina. Dense, seasoned, and full of character that only decades of weathering can produce.
All pieces are made to order at Ololo Lodge, Nairobi. Custom sizes and finishes available — get in touch to discuss your requirements.
